Great socialist people's Arab Jamahiriya. Libya must be the best kept secret of North Africa. But over the recent years it has opened up to the world. An increasing number of travelers get to see the country's stunning nature, wild mountains, scattered with fragile green spots of forests and agriculture. But what brings Libya to most tourists' attention are the fantastic Roman ruins along the coast. Leptis Magna and Sebratha are stunning, but not the only places. While most of Libyan Sahara is mountainous, Libya offers a couple of the longest treks of sand desert in the world.

Climate
Coast near Tripoli and Benghazi is relatively pleasant even in summer time, but some years the temperatures can reach the level of 45°C, especially in July/August.
Winter in this region often brings rain and cold nights. During spring, the ghibli can offer an unpleasant experience of fast increase in the temperatures, when it can be up to 30-35°C. Temperatures drop slightly inland from these two large cities, and in the Jabal Akhdar region, summer is to be preferred to winter. Travelling in the Sahara could be done even in summer, but only for those supporting high temperatures with ease.
