Its is situated in the far southwest of libya, The twarig called it (Land of peace), In the old Libyan language it was called (Land of sun), Its foundation's date back to the Garamante period, As an advanced defence point, Ghat reflects the image of the old Saharan cities with all of their marvel and ambiguities, It was erected on the ruins of a town called (Rana) at the end of the first century B.C, Ghat acquired its present name in the fourteenth century, As it came in the books of geographers and travelers, Its quadratic wall towers are still being seen as concrete evidence of its prosperous day during the old ages, In the neighboring area, there are dozens of prehistoric rock-arts in caves of (Akakus and Tassili) mountains which extend from Ghat to the Niger borders, At a distance of 6 kilometers west of Ghat, there are caves of Wadi Fit, Wadi (Tshiwenat) Wadi Wan Mujaj and Wan Amen .
